Traffic fatalities increased in 2015

The automobile fatality rate in Illinois and across the nation increased by more than 7 percent in 2015. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, this is the largest one-year increase in this rate since the 1960s.

The new data shows that there were more car accidents fatalities in 2015 than in 2014 both in absolute numbers and in proportion of the population. A few major causes have been found behind this swell in the death tolls. However, there is no official consensus on how to address them or scientific proof of precisely which reasons are the most direct causes.

Experts know that more people were on the road in 2015 than 2014 as the total number of vehicle miles traveled in America went up by 3.5 percent. There is also reason to suspect that the usage of electronic devices while driving may be behind at least part of this statistical increase. Distracted driving was involved in more than one in 10 of the fatalities.

People who have come to harm because of an accident that was not their fault may want to collect compensation for their damages. The injured individual may request economic redress for damage to property such as their car or medical bills resulting from an injury. If a victim dies in a car crash, their family could file a lawsuit in order to collect for pain and suffering. An attorney may help those who wish to present their case before the law. The attorney can advocate for the aggrieved party and help them to file the civil suit properly.
