Illinois deputy injured in single-car accident

According to news sources, a Will County deputy who has been on the force for two years was injured in a single-car accident on Sept. 29. The accident happened just before midnight on Essington Road and Ingalls Avenue.

While the deputy was on his way to respond to a call, an SUV reportedly pulled out in front of him and stopped on the road. The deputy swerved to avoid crashing into the SUV and lost control of his vehicle. He then left the road, crashing into a tree. The driver of the SUV left the scene of the accident and has not been located.

Emergency responders had to extricate the deputy from his car. He was unconscious at the time and was transported to the hospital for treatment. He regained consciousness on Sept. 30 and was able to talk. The deputy underwent testing to determine his injuries, but the hospital stated that it did not appear that his injuries were catastrophic.

When a person is injured in an accident caused by a hit-and-run driver, the driver who caused the accident may face criminal penalties. The injured victim may also hold the driver accountable by filing a civil lawsuit naming the motorist as a defendant. A lawsuit might allow injured victims to recover damages so that they may receive fair compensation for their losses, which could include the reimbursement of medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, and the costsof any necessary future medical care. A personal injury attorney can often be of assistance in this regard.
