Wall collapses on worker in recent construction accident

OSHA is currently investigating a work injury that occurred when a wall collapsed on a worker. The accident occurred on a recent Tuesday morning in an out-of-state warehouse, fire officials said. When a similar construction accident occurs in Illinois, the worker is typically entitled to file a workers' compensation claim in order to receive benefits.

In this incident, the man was standing on a scissor lift that had been elevated several feet in the air. Around 7:39 a.m., the man was in the process of dismantling a cinder block wall in the warehouse when, for reasons that are not currently clear, a section of the wall collapsed on the man. The 15 blocks that fell on the man weighed hundreds of pounds.

When rescue crews arrived, the lift was already lowered, and the collapsed portion of the partially-dismantled wall had been removed. The man was still on the lift, unconscious. He was flown to a local medical center in Boston; his current condition has not yet been released.

While the investigation into this construction accident continues, the construction worker will still be held liable for his hospital bills even though he will most likely not be working. This can cause considerable financial hardships. Fortunately, when workers in Illinois suffer a work injury, they are legally entitled to file for workers' compensation benefits. Successfully filed, any monies received can be used to lessen some of the common financial setbacks that a worker typically incurs. Many workers begin the filing process by consulting an experienced workers' compensation lawyer.
