Illinois crash kills 48-year-old pedestrian

A 48-year-old Decatur, Illinois, a man was killed as a result of being hit by a pickup truck as he stood on a sidewalk.

Officers responded to the accident at East Eldorado and North 24th streets and found the driver of the truck was a 55-year-old Decatur man. He had reportedly lost control of the truck, which left the roadway and wound up going through the yards on East Eldorado Street before striking the man.

The crash happened at midday.

The younger man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was struck and was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he passed away.

No one else was hurt.

The coroner in Macon County, Illinois, said the man died of “massive” trauma to his torso and head. The area’s Fatal Accident Investigation Team arrived at the site to investigate the accident.

No charges have been filed in the incident, and no further information was immediately released. The coroner said toxicology reports on the driver were pending.

Details about the man who was killed still were unknown, but it’s possible he has left behind a family dependent on him for support. Should the driver be charged with a crime, the Illinois criminal justice system will take over that part of the case. The victim, however, was not at fault in this incident as he stood off the roadway. His family could contact an Illinois attorney to pursue a civil judgment to help recoup their losses as well as to gain support for the future.
