Sometimes, life deals us unexpected blows. A perfectly normal day could suddenly be bleak when a loved one passes away, for example. In those situations, the last thing you want to have to worry about is lawsuits or who is to blame. You’re only worried about yourself and the loss you’re dealing with.
The thing to remember when a loved one is killed by another party is that you do have rights in that situation as a victim. You may be able to seek compensation from the party, so you can rest easy knowing that finances are taken care of while you grieve.
Take, for example, this case where the wife of a man killed in a head-on crash is filing a lawsuit against a trucking company. According to the story, the woman is suing Jason Farrell Trucking for a fatal crash that resulted in the deaths of two people, one including her husband.
Her husband was on a school bus as a volunteer when he was involved in a head-on crash with a semi-truck. The driver of the truck was killed as well.
In her lawsuit, she’s seeking at least $50,000 in damages. The truck had been going the wrong way at the time of the crash, even though the driver had no alcohol or drugs in his system when the collision occurred. The woman’s husband wasn’t the only one who was impacted by the crash, either. Several athletes, as well as the coach and bus driver, had to be hospitalized as a result of the collision.
This is just one example of a case where a family member has started a lawsuit to get fair compensation. You also have this right.
